A Friend’s Loss
This morning, I received an email telling me that author Tee Morris had lost his wife yesterday. From the little I’ve been able to find out, her death appears to have been very sudden and may have been due to flu complications, although I’m not sure about that.
The details don’t matter, really. What does matter is that Tee has lost the woman he loved and his daughter, Serena aka Sonic Boom, has lost her mom. It’s rarely the right time for any death but Natalie was far too young and this is too awful to get a handle on.
There are, of course, unexpected bills and an author friend of his, New Zealander Phillippi Ballantine, has started a fund to help. If you know Tee and you’d like to donate, go to ChipIn: Tee and Sonic Boom. It’s a way to actually be of some use at such a horrible time.
When I was talking to Annie about it a little while ago, I said that I had spoken to Natalie on the phone several times but had never met her. A bit later, I realized that wasn’t true, I DID meet her. I’m not sure when it was but it was at our old location so had to be before November 2004 and she came to a signing with Tee, baby in tow. I do remember that Sonic Boom was a gorgeous baby and, although I’m not sure how old she was, I think this was one of her early appearances in public. Anyway, I remember that Natalie was really nice and was very obviously proud of Tee in his author persona. I wish now that I had gotten to know her better.
I do claim friendship with Tee. As an author, he was always very supportive of Creatures ‘n Crooks, but it went beyond that. Every time I have seen Tee, a bear hug has ensued and I’ve always looked forward to that. I wish I could give him one now.

So sorry to hear about this. I am not familiar with this author, but I can still feel sad that he lost his wife so suddenly. Loss is always hard, but when it comes out of the blue, it is a little harder to deal with.
