Book Launch Party: Secrets of the Sands by Leona Wisoker
This Saturday, April 3rd, we’ll be the book seller for Leona Wisoker‘s brand spankin’ new debut, the fantasy Secrets of the Sands. From a purely selfish standpoint, this event is significant for us because it’s the first launch—or author signing—we’ve had the great good fortune to do since we closed the brick & mortar store last fall. I’m ever so grateful that Leona gave us the opportunity to do this.
I first met Leona at RavenCon several years ago. At the time, she was operating a massage chair, one of the more intriguing and useful additions to cons, in my opinion. I’ve never been able to indulge in a session in the chair because I’m usually busy in the Dealers Room but I can’t imagine a better treat after a long day of panels and socializing, standing and/or sitting for hours on end. Anyway, back to Leona. Like so many writers, she’s been scribbling one thing or another for years and then, not too long ago, she decided to retire the chair and some of the other distractions in her life and focus on her writing. The result is Secrets of the Sands, the first title in the epic fantasy series Children of the Desert. Published with a small, independent press, Mercury Retrograde Press, the actual release date was yesterday, March 30th, and the buzz has been building for a while.
When the books arrived from the publisher the other day, it was reminiscent of the early days of the store, the huge excitement whenever a new carton would arrive. What treasures might be in there? Let’s sit on the floor and savor the feel, the smell, the look of these wonderful entertainment devices, these marvelous BOOKS. We never quite lost that feeling that there were delightful surprises to be discovered in those boxes. Seeing Secrets of the Sands for the first time, I had a very small taste of the thrill that Leona must have had when she got her first copy.
Demand for this book is already surprisingly strong, surprising because this doesn’t often happen with an author’s  first book published by a small press. If you’re coming to the launch party—see here for details about the party which involves lots of chocolate
—feel free to reserve a copy at cncbooks3@gmail.com or just leave a comment below. See ya at the party!
