ConCarolinas or Bust!!
Well, we’ll be leaving for ConCarolinas in Charlotte this morning, our first trip to this gathering of speculative fiction afficionados. The Guest of Honor is Jerry Pournelle, author of a bunch of science fiction books, many in collaboration with Larry Niven, and one of them is a favorite of mine. Lucifer’s Hammer is on my list of top apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic novels and I hope I’ll have the chance to tell him so.
The dealers room may end up being a revelation for us. We’ve found out, just in the last few days, that many authors sell their own books at this con so, having placed our orders some time ago, our supplies may sit on the tables gathering dust. Maybe this is why there weren’t already any new book dealers signed up. Oh well, maybe the random titles we’re taking with us will sell, at least enough to cover our expenses. Come what may, I’m sure we’ll have a good time and we’ll get to see some old friends and make some new ones—that’s half the reason we go to these things after all, the other half being the crass desire to make a little money so we can stay in business.
This is the last con we’ll be doing this year unless an opportunity crops up unexpectedly in the fall. Won’t it be nice if the rumors about the economy getting better actually turn out to be true? RavenCon 2010 treated us well, better than many of the other vendors, and it will be terrific if ConCarolinas turns out to be a must-do every year for us. And, if not, a roadtrip is always a good thing anyway
